
RefWorks can be a real time-saver and big help in your research. It is a useful and versatile bibliographic management software available free through the Preston Library website. Once you’re registered (it only takes a few minutes), you will be able to use RefWorks to organize your references in a personal database accessible anywhere from the Web. It will even generate a bibliography or works cited list, formatted in the style that you choose.
Some features of RefWorks:
- Export citations directly from many of the Preston Library databases
- Share references for a group project – there’s no limit to the number of accounts created
- Create folders to organize your research
- Import references from a documents
- Search your references
- Format a bibliography, choosing from hundreds of output styles including several VMI-specific styles
RefWorks has recently added lifelong account access and a mobile phone interface, so if you’ve got a mobile phone, smart phone or PDA, you can use RefWorks there, too.

Every year Preston Library celebrates our graduating Cadet Assistants by dedicating a book in their honor. The graduating Cadet Assistants chooses any book in the collection and we put the dedication inside the front cover and display them in the library lobby.

Cadet Noah Scribner ’09, received this year’s Frances W. Camper award for his outstanding service and leadership to Preston Library as a Library Cadet Assistant. Throughout this time he demonstrated exemplary leadership, dependability, and resourcefulness.
Joining in the ceremony to honor Cadet Scribner on April 30th, were members of the Friends’ Board and Library staff. Mr. Drummond Ayres, Chairman of the Friends of Preston Library and Col. Don Samdahl, Head Librarian, presented Cadet Scribner with his award. Following graduation Mr. Scribner will serve in the U.S. Army as an armor officer.
Thanks to all the cadets who complekted the Library Survey! The staff of the Preston Library really does appreciate and consider your ideas on how to make the library a better place on post. We would also like to congratulate the cadets who won pizzas and sodas: Jennifer Ball, Will Klick, Robert Main, and Ian Williams. Thanks again for participating in the survey!

Preston Library’s online survey will be available until Thursday, 16 April. Fill out the survey, print the last page, write your name on it, and bring it to the library.
A drawing will be held on Friday , 17 April, and 4 lucky cadets will win 2 pizzas and a 2 liter bottle of soda from the PX.
