Renee Reives October 22, 2011 at 19:49: Why would the library be open from 0800-1300 on the days of home football games? We have parade and most people will be tailgating or something else. I think it should be later after the football game considering they’re not over until like 1630. Maybe 1800-2300.

The library’s Saturday hours have been evolving in response to cadet requests like yours. Originally Saturday hours were 8am-5pm, closing at 1pm on game days. Those Saturday morning hours accommodate cadets who are early risers, as well as alumni and other visitors, and we’ll probably continue to be open then.

About three years ago, in response to cadet survey comments, we extended Saturday hours to 6pm and stayed open until 11pm on three or four Saturdays around midterms and near the end of the semester. The next year we offered more late Saturdays, and this year our regular Saturday hours have become 8am-11pm, except on game days.

Now we need to reexamine game days. We considered reopening 7-11pm, but we thought cadets would surely be “otherwise engaged” on those Saturday nights, especially on Parents Weekend, Homecoming, and Ring Figure weekends. At this point, there is just Ring Figure weekend left. We welcome your comments and will consider reopening 7-11pm on game days if cadets say they’ll be here.
